Ranger Corey 12/31/1995 to 10/24/2006

These pictures were taken in March 2006.

It's a sad week in the Corey House. Ranger had to be put to sleep Tuesday morning. It was a rough few days but he had been having trouble getting up off the floor to go outside or get a drink and when we would help him, he would yelp in pain. It was very sudden.

It will put a smile on your faces to know that even as he was getting a sedative, he still perked up when he heard the work "cookie," and of course, ate one.

Tot-zilla!

Napoleon Dynamite fans should check out the Utah State Fair web site. Or a direct link to some dude's blog where it is a bit easier to access the spots.

Enjoy!

Free Coffee and Donuts Anyone?

My peeps at the Dunkin' pulled through. I received a nicely-crafted response about how DD's were franchise operations, that the company was very sorry that I was inconvenienced, and they were giving me four coupons for free coffee and donuts or bagels.

They are franchises, huh? Wonder what the start-up cost is? I know the perfect place...

See The Coffee Down Here Sucks to find out what the heck I am talking about.

I Accused my Dog of Being Bad

So it rained. And rained. And poured. And rained some more. That much rain on the Friday of a holiday weekend is never a good thing. Trying to get to a wedding in Washington, DC at 6:30 pm on a rainy Friday of a holiday weekend doesn’t make it any better. We finally arrived without too much trauma, and even made it on time (okay, not on time but before the ceremony started). The ceremony was short and very sweet, the food was tasty, the drinks were even tastier, and the company was outstanding.

After attending this very fun wedding and staying up with our guests until the wee hours of the morning, I woke up very early Saturday morning. Too early—6:45 am. I decided to go down to the basement to make sure the corner where the water comes in was still dry. As I walked through the dining room I stepped in something wet and looked down to see a splattering in the center of the floor. Ranger. What the hell!? That damn dog was too lazy to come all the way upstairs and get me. Well, I cleaned it up, took him out, and brought him upstairs so I could go back to sleep. As I lay in bed, I started thinking that it was really raining hard and I had forgotten to go to the basement, so I got up and went down to check it out. Damn if there wasn’t a wet spot in the center of the dining room floor again! Couldn’t be Ranger, he was fast asleep upstairs. I looked up. Water was dripping from the ceiling. My poor dog, so unjustly accused. This time I remembered to check the basement. Water in the usual spot and water in the so-called “dry room”—the room where we happen to be storing all the shit we haven’t bothered to unpack yet. Great. Don’t think I was going to let Adam sleep through all this. We spent the rest of the morning moving boxes into the dry pile and the wet pile, sopping up water, and unpacking the wet boxes. Oh yeah, we have to replace the dinging room ceiling now too, at least when we figure out how the water came in.

I’m starting to think that renting wouldn’t be such a bad idea.

The Coffee Down Here Sucks!

One of the things that has saved me from missing my Beantown too, too much is the almost daily fix at my local D*nkin’ D0nuts. It’s 4 miles from home but I have to drive by on my way to work anyway, so why not stop in? Never fear, on the days I don’t work a full supply of the DD is kept at home. Well….. On my way to work Monday, I buzzed my car into the parking lot of the strip mall where my DD is located, and I thought to myself, “Sweet, not many cars, no lines, I’ll be in and out in like no time.” (Okay, like 6 minutes—DD is notoriously slow.) As I started to get out of my car I realized why there were no cars in the lot. D*NKIN’ D0NUTS WAS GONE!!! Oh, the humanity!

I know, many of you might say it is not a big deal--especially my beloved Mass-tonians--drive two blocks down and go to the other one. Well, there is no other one. The next closest DD is 5 miles from home, in the other direction. You see, we only have six DD in greater Washington, DC. It has been a sad, sad week. St@rbucks sucks.

In other news:
-We have a floor in the kitchen and will have a counter-top later this week. The sink and ice maker hook-ups follow the next weekend when Adam’s dad comes to put the final touches on the project. If you’d like to see progress so far, you can visit http://homepage.mac.com/adam_corey/PhotoAlbum24.html.
-We have moles or voles that have made holes all over the yard, so we are trying to decide how to get rid of them. It is not going to be an “animal friendly” solution folks. Sorry, but it’s just not.
-We finally painted and moved back into our bedroom. It has been over two months since I have slept in my own bed and it has been the best two nights sleep I have had in months.
-Adam and I both had our Annual Reviews at work (imagine that MBELftBoH peeps) and it looks like we are both staying here and at our jobs.
-Heading to a wedding this weekend, meaning lots o’company. Five people using one shower (not at the same time) is not going to be pretty.

That’s all for now folks.
